Blacksmithing Classes

 

For those interested in the art of forging, the foundations of all smithing at Nazz Forge begin with our blacksmithing classes! The introductory level classes serve to teach invaluable forging fundamentals, as well as get new students comfortable with: tools & materials, working in the forge environment, and the many order of operations inherent to the craft. If you are new to forging, we highly recommend starting with the basics, and then working your way through our blacksmithing curriculum from there. Each level of class is designed to reinforce skills learned in the previous class, and then build upon them with two or three new skills to learn and assimilate. In addition to our single class offerings, we also provide a variety of course packages for students that are ready to take on more of the challenges and rewards this art form has to offer.

 

Bottle Opener

Introductory Blacksmithing - One session, 3 hours - $138

Begin your blacksmithing experience learning the core principles through practice and repetition! Bottle opener class is highly procedural and tool based. Students will improve basic hammering technique while learning the skills of drifting, bending, punching, and planishing. Leave class with a handy new tool, or a gift for a friend.

 

Trinkets 3 - Nails (NEW!)

Intermediate Blacksmithing - One session, 2-2.5 hours - $150

Historically, blacksmiths have been relied upon to produce quality nails for both craft and construction. This class will teach students the quick drawing out method and further refine more delicate tapering. Afterwards you will learn how to ‘hot cut’ and use the nail header tool, all while forging 3-4 traditional blacksmith’s nails.

 

Trinkets 5 - Arrowheads (NEW!)

Advanced Blacksmithing - One session, 2-2.5 hours - $150

Students will again be called upon to deploy more enhanced versions of skills that were practiced in previous classes. Participants will learn to isolate mass, form clean facets, and sharp tapers. Proficiency with the cross-peen and mandrel tool will be needed to shape even ferrule sockets. Start with the basic bodkin style arrow, and seasoned students may get to attempt forging a second broad-head type also.

 

Intro to Blacksmithing Bundle

Multi-level Blacksmithing - 3 Classes, 6-7 hours - $395 (NEW!)

Select up to three classes total, starting with at least one Introductory level class, and followed by any combination of intro, intermediate, & advanced classes for the remaining two, all packaged together at a 10% discount.

Trinkets: Wall Hook

Introductory Blacksmithing - One session, 2-2.5 hours - $138

Start your blacksmithing experience learning the fundamentals (body positioning, hammering form, tool usage…) and getting comfortable in the forge! This class teaches students the skills of tapering, drawing out, bending, and scrolling, all while creating a strong mountable wall hook that you can take home & use anywhere.

 
 

Trinkets 2 - Twist ‘S’ Hook (NEW!)

Intermediate Blacksmithing - One session, 2-2.5 hours - $150

Building off the skills from wall hook class, students can forge up to 2 elegant twist S hooks, perfect for hanging pans, key rings, and plants around the house. Improve on your ‘drawing out’ skills, and learn to master the double taper & scroll, the standard twist, and double twist.

 

Trinkets 4 - Leaf Charm (NEW!)

Advanced Blacksmithing - One session, 2-2.5 hours - $150

Moving on to forge organic shapes requires students to hone and combine multiple skills from prior classes. Students will learn to isolate mass, use a cross-peen to forge wide & thin leaves, and how to planish, taper, and scroll smooth curved stems. Expect to make one, or possibly two small charms in this challenging class.

 

Blacksmith’s EXP Bundle

Multi-level Blacksmithing - 2 Classes, 4-5 hours - $270 (NEW!)

If you’ve already taken an Introductory course at Nazz Forge, then continue your smithing journey with 1 intermediate class and a second intermediate or advanced class of your choice, packaged together at a 10% discount.
